IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Do Something

Do Something believes young people have the power to make a difference. It is their aim to inspire, support and celebrate a generation of do-ers: people who see the need to do something, believe in their ability to get it done, and then take action.

INTERNATIONAL ISSUES

Bridge of Life
DaVita Medical Missions

Creating a Village without borders. In return sharing the gift of life. The goal of Bridge of Life is to reach out to people who are disproportionately affected by chronic kidney disease and live in developing countries abroad and disadvantaged communities in the U.S. For those who currently have little access to medical treatment, Bridge of Life offers the opportunity for people in these communities to have the same advantages as those living in areas with chronic kidney disease care.

DOMESTIC ISSUES

The Montel Williams MS Foundation

The Montel Williams MS Foundation is dedicated to furthering the scientific study of multiple sclerosis. Its goals are to provide financial assistance to select organizations and institutions conducting the most current research, to increase allocations for research from the federal government and to raise national awareness about MS. The Foundation contributes 100% of funds from individuals to research. Administrative funding is personally underwritten by Montel Williams and by corporate donors.

REGIONAL ISSUES

Urban Edge

Urban Edge is a community development corporation (CDC) that works in partnership with residents, businesses and government institutions committed to developing and sustaining stable, healthy, and diverse communities in Jamaica Plain, Roxbury and surrounding communities in Massachusetts through the development of high quality, affordable rental and owner housing, assistance to small businesses, homeownership education and lending and the development of educational facilities for youth and families.

Special Olympics Kansas
New Hope Team

The mission of the Special Olympics Kansas - New Hope Team is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.

A Word From Our Founder

Hello Again! As promised in our first newsletter, this note from me will be much shorter! We'll continue to follow the same format month to month - we'll introduce our new partners, highlight our People Who Care feature, spotlight new retailers and promotions and generally keep you posted as to what's happening here at nonprofitshoppingmall.com.

Right now our focus is on building our network of regionally based organizations using our external links program. Designed to help local or regional groups raise funds while utilizing our technology, NPSM shopping windows are meant to live on these external sites and enable a community of existing supporters to shop+give while benefiting their own organization. We're talking to more and more organizations daily and, this month, we're pleased to welcome Bridge of Life - DaVita Medical Missions, Urban Edge and the Special Olympics Kansas New Hope Team.

We had another great opportunity to partner with our friends at Organic Style on The Montel Williams Show last month as a part of his Living Well Series. In case you missed it, you can still read all about it here - and - sign-up to win a Tempur-Pedic bed, complete with organic linens in the process.

Spring is in the Air - take a look at our sales+promotions page - you'll find spring specials that pretty much run the gamut from shoes to garden supplies, spring apparel for your favorite four-legged friends and more. If you're Irish - feelin' lucky or just want to have some fun, check out Café Press - a unique retailer that offers a wide variety of seasonal T-Shirts, gifts and other novelty items.

We've just added a new feature to our SHOP THE MALL page - a search by retailer option. SO - if you don't want to go through the categories listed to find your favorite store, just type in its name, watch it come up and start shopping!! Also be on the look out for upcoming Mother's Day promotions - did you know that Mother's Day is the largest flower-giving holiday of the year? Neither did I ...

A quick aside to all the 'parents' reading this -- you know what also happens in spring? Spring Break followed all too closely by summer vacation - be sure to take a look at our People Who Care feature with host, Emme, and explore the great volunteer opportunities available to young people at Do Something!

Thanks for bringing us into your everyday shopping experience and for changing the way you shop by turning everyday shopping into everyday giving, everyday!

Until next month...

Keeping the Workplace Green

Last month I outlined a couple of green retailers that were geared toward home décor, bed, bath and floral. This month it's on to 'Keeping the Workplace Green' with a short introduction to several suppliers that carry a wide array of recyclable and eco-friendly office products.

Our Favorite Catalogs

We're all aware of the environmental downside to the volume of catalogs that still find their way into our mailboxes and I doubt well see dramatic changes in the near future, as these glossy teasers are proven to drive sales. With that said, we do have some favorites that we'd like to share... but please remember to recycle or share with friends once you've done your shopping.

What's New in the Kitchen

Suffice it to say that food plays an important role in our lives. Over the years I've learned that the right ingredients and the right tools are essential to creating or 'recreating' memorable dishes at home. What's New in the Kitchen showcases a couple of great culinary retailers while introducing a new approach to creating personalized cookbooks from Tastebook.
